if you are on the roadways this weekend, be aware that the Washington State Patrol are increasing their patrols looking for distracted drivers.

WSP over the weekend will be looking for drivers that are distracted by their smartphones.

If you are caught distracted driving, the ticket will be $136 for a first offense but will increase to $237 if it's a second offense.

Distracted Driving causes roughly 30% of traffic-related deaths and 23% of serious injuries in traffic accidents.

You can still use your hands-free devices but anything that appears that you are holding a smart-phone in your hand while you are driving, could get you a ticket.

So far according to the WSP, over 17,000 people have been ticketed so far this year.
