The world famous Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is working on a device to measure DARK MATTER! It's a "bubble chamber" with really hot liquid just below boiling.   If tiny amounts of energy enter the insulation (dark matter) it will spark some of the molecules to boil, releasing tiny bubbles, detected by motion sensors.
Dark matter is invisible to our telescopes but is known for its gravitational effects throughout the universe. The nature of dark matter is still unknown, but the best guess among the astrophysics and particle physics communities is that the dark matter is composed of new fundamental particles, associated with an unknown area of physics.
Scientists say this is a unique probe and opportunity for discovery about the nature of dark matter interactions with regular matter.
