Hail to the Chief: Every Time the President Visited Tri-Cities, Washington
Several United States presidents have visited the Tri-Cities, Washington area.
I have had the opportunity to meet a couple of politicians in my lifetime. When I was in grade school, I lived in Iowa. My parents have a picture of me with then-Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack. Vilsack is the current Secretary of Agriculture (as of 2021), a position he held previously from 2009 until 2017. I don't remember much, but I do remember we were at an ethanol plant, and the picture was taken after a prayer was held. Governor Vilsack had his hand on my shoulder during the prayer.
The other politician I have met was Jay Inslee when he was running for governor of Washington in 2012. I was in school at Tri-Tech Skills center in my second year of radio broadcasting. I had the chance to talk with him for a bit and shake his hand. I can tell you that Governor Inslee has a very firm handshake. This meeting was a bit different as I was much older and could understand what was going on.
If I ever had the chance to meet a president or a presidential candidate, I think that would be extremely cool. I've heard people say even if they didn't vote for a president, they still respect the office and the person sitting in that chair.
Over the years, many Tri-Citians have had the chance to meet the president. You may recall some of these but maybe you'll learn something new today!
