According to a recent survey, almost half of northeast Oregon teens have tried marijuana and a quarter use it regularly.

Statewide, that's normal. And in southern Oregon, more than half of teens told the survey they'd tried marijuana.

Umatilla County ranked 11th in the state, which is something to be proud of. All other eastern counties had lower rates. So considering how well NE Oregon did, it's alarming that 45% have tried the drug and 24% use it regularly.

Local authorities say it's because parents are using. It's not uncommon for parents to be furious their teens were caught with pot, then tell police it belongs to them and can they have it back.

Authorities also say there is a glut of product in the state and producers are looking the other way when it's sold illegally to get their money back.
