A Richland woman was arrested over the weekend after an auto accident with her kids raised suspicion that she was drinking and driving.

The accident occurred on Keene Road next to Kennedy in Richland on Sunday, December 27th at roughly 10 PM.

According to police reports, Dennice Cecelia Ortiz-Diaz lost control of her vehicle, rolling it into a ditch. Diaz had two small children in her vehicle at the time, aged 11 and 7, and they were taken to the hospital for observation.

Richland Police arrested Diaz on suspicion of driving under the influence and she'll face charges of Felony 3rd Degree Assault, DUI, Reckless Endangerment, and Resisting Arrest.

According to Richland Police, Diaz lost control of her vehicle on an icy road and rolled her vehicle upside down with two small children inside. Luckily the kids were uninjured but were taken to the hospital to make sure they were ok.

As we head into the New Year, remember that patrols will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and it's much easier to call a cab, get an UBER or get a designated driver to take you home. You don't want to have to face a judge and talk about costly fines. It's not worth it plus she faces even stiffer charges because she had children in the car with her.
