In May 2016, someone vandalized the Purple Heart Veteran's Memorial at Wye Park in Richland, just off of Columbia Park Trail, ripping all the purple sage from it and leaving the plants to die.

Beaver Bark stepped in shortly after and donated some new sage to the heart. With help from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla, the native purple sage was returned. Finally in late March, almost a year later, it's back and better than ever. Next is a marker to explain the significance of the memorial. No word on when that dedication may be ready.
