As the second phase of NFL free agency continues, the Seattle Seahawks made a move today to shore up their pass rush, which definitely needed to be addressed after the club released Carlos Dunlap, by re-signing DE Benson Mayowa. The deal was announced by the agency who represents him, DEC Management:

Mayowa is 29-years old coming off a 2020 season where he made nine starts in 13 games registering six sacks. His new deal is believed to be for two years. However, the contract reportedly has two 'voidable' years at the end. The idea is to spread any bonus money out over a four year period to minimize hits to the salary cap. NFL financing is always super-creative, but the pandemic has put an even more dizzying spin on how deals get done as the salary cap has dropped $16.5 million per team thanks to 2020's financial bath. Don't worry about the poor ol' NFL though, that bottom line salary cap deficit is expected to be made up, plus $20 million more per team to spend when the new 10-year $10 BILLION streaming and TV deal starts in 2023.

Finally, Seahawks fans, we get a reprieve from the sad saga concerning Russell Wilson and the club, as it's been over a week since there's been even a sniff of drama. While there's still plenty of calendar left before the NFL draft, about five weeks until the April 29th-May 1st get together, the chances of a getting a deal done are slim considering the Chicago Bears' Hail Mary hodgepodge toss of draft picks and players (six total!) to Seattle wasn't really taken seriously, reportedly, by Seahawks management.
