Washington State's Unsecured Load Problem

Every day as I drive to work, I either see stuff littered on the highway that has fallen out of a vehicle or I actually see it fall off myself. It is amazing how many people do not secure their loads in Washington State on a daily basis. If you never have had to weave around something suddenly in your lane while you are driving, consider yourself lucky. There might be only 2 days a year where YOU are transporting something in a truck or trailer, so don't make those two days affect your whole life or someone else with a serious accident. Make sure you secure your load correctly before you drive away. That way you don't cause an accident like I saw this morning

Plywood Sheet Slams into Washington Driver's Window

A big piece of plywood smashes through a driver's windshield on a Washington State highway, luckily stopping before seriously injuring anyone inside the car. Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo posted about the event that happened on July 18th early that morning. A corner of the plywood lodged into the top of the windshield where it struck and pushed inside the car about 12 inches with the rest breaking off. They are still looking for the work truck that the plywood fell from, I posted a picture directly below.

Why is Securing Your Load so Important?

Unsecured loads cause over 300 crashes every year in Washington alone. The stuff that falls off unsecured loads is also responsible for about 40% of all trash found on the sides of roadways. In 2022 alone, 5 people died because of accidents caused by unsecured loads in Washington State. Washington State Patrol (WSP) Chief John Batiste says “Our troopers and commercial enforcement officers contact more than 1,000 motorists each year for failing to properly secure their vehicle’s loads." Let's not let one of those motorists be YOU!
