Several Washington Animal Shelters Care for Pets Displaced by Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian is one of the deadliest hurricanes to have ever reached stateside. The storm caused the deaths of over 130 people and racked up billions of dollars in damage. While you see plenty of news reports on people being displaced, you may not realize what's happening to pets in affected areas.

Just because you don't live near Florida, that doesn't mean you can't help. People across the country have donated blood and made monetary donations among other things. In Washington, animal shelters have been taking animals in that were displaced by the destructive storm.

This is the sort of story that despite the unfortunate circumstances, warms your heart. Washington welcomed 150 displaced pets as they were flown into Everett. These animals were already in shelters in Florida before the hurricane forced them out. One shelter in Bellvue took in 68 pets, including guinea pigs. A total of five shelters on the western side of Washington took the animals into their systems.

Greater Good Charities is an organization out of Seattle that has donated over $400 million to various projects since its inception. The charity is audited each year to ensure trust between itself and the general public. At this time, Greater Good is currently assisting in the disaster relief of both the Ukraine crisis and the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.
