Slipknot: Mystery Member Is ‘Nobody’s F–king Business’
Who's the person behind the mask? The new Slipknot mask, that is.
Upon the reveal of the rockers' fresh getups in May 16's "Unsainted" video, a ninth member donning a crumpled, golden-hued mask (plus hallmark zipper) appeared to be a stand-in for Chris Fehn, the Slipknot member who's reportedly no longer with the group after money contentions resulted in his apparent expulsion.
A replacement for the percussionist hasn't been announced since the band split with the musician over the accounting dispute, so the identity of the new mask-wearer in Slipknot's photos and videos remains a mystery.
It may just stay that way, at least for the time being. When Kerrang caught up with Slipknot figureheads Shawn "Clown" Crahan and Corey Taylor in Las Vegas last week, the mag asked the pair if they wished to identify the presumed new member in the group. Unsurprisingly an emphatic "no" was received.
"The position you may or may not be talking about is nobody's fucking business," Clown replied before suggesting that fans will have to come see the band live to decide for themselves. "The proof is in the pudding."
Does the mask itself have connections to Fehn? It does appear to have a significant nose, but not one as lengthy as Fehn's last look. The percussionist, with the new mask, appears in the "Unsainted" video, but only a few times.
For now, listeners will have to wait to learn the identity of the mystery drum beater, but as Clown suggested, you can come see for yourself. Catch the band on the road at these stops.
