Soap Lake K9 Officer Arrested for Alleged DUI & Hit & Run

A Soap Lake Reserve Officer was taken into custody Thursday evening for alleged DUI and possible Hit and Run.

A Franklin County Deputy noticed a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 395 north of Pasco on Thursday just before 8 pm.

The driver was identified as 49-year old Shane Jones, a Reserve Officer with the Soap Lake Police Department. The vehicle was a marked K-9 Soap Lake Police cruiser with a dog in it.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Jones was detained as the Deputy investigated him for driving under the influence. Jones resisted arrest and was seen pushing a remote to have the dog released from the vehicle to come and help him.

Jones was booked into the Franklin County Jail charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest. He's also being investigated by Washington State Patrol for a hit and run incident earlier on Thursday.

A statement was issued on Facebook by the Soap Lake Police Department.

“I am deeply troubled by this now-former reserve officer’s behavior,” said Soap Lake Police Chief Ryan Cox. “This individual violated department policy and the law and betrayed the public’s trust and our agency standards. Absolutely no one is above the law, especially police officers. The Soap Lake Police Department is treating – and will continue to treat – this serious incident both professionally and transparently.”

According to the post, the Soap Lake Police Department is cooperating with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office's investigation and with the Washington State Patrol's hit and run investigation.
