After 25 Fond Years, Finley Mom & Pop store Owners Are Retiring
The owners of the Finley Shopper have decided to call it a day after two decades of serving the Finley community and surrounding area. Rob and Kathy Richards are retiring. They took over the store from Kathy's father, and on Wednesday, they'll hand over the keys to a new owner.
It took the Richards' two ears to find someone who would care about the store's employees as much as they do. They found that supportive person in the owner of Kennewick's Pick-a-Pop.
Richards life:
Both Kathy and Rob worked at other jobs before acquiring The Finley Shopper. Rob worked for Coca-Cola, and Kathy was employed with Safeway.
The retiring owners credit their employees and the community for the successful longevity of the business. Rob likens the business to a mini-Ranch & Home, with groceries, animal feed, hardware, chicks, and dog grooming.
A Day in The Life at The Finley Shopper:
Customers keep coming through on their way to and from work and school. The store is located near Finley Middle School at 222608 East Game Farm Road, in Kennewick.
Every child gets a sucker as they enter. It's a memory for people who are now parents and grandparents.
Future for the store and retirees:
The new owner plans to make some upgrades at The Finley Store, which will be closed on Wednesday, December 15th so they can take inventory and hand over the keys.
As for the the Richards, they'll take a much deserved break before they add golf, paddle boarding, and canoeing to their schedule.
