Pendleton has a wild history but something that happened only 40-50 years ago was REALLY wild!

Just outside of town near where Reith Road and the railroad tracks go under the freeway along the Umatilla River there used to be a NUDIST COLONY!

That’s right, sleepy Pendleton had people sauntering around in their birthday suits right near the entrance to town.Old timers recall the property having a pretty tall fence to avoid gawkers.

The family who owned the property liked to go commando for sure, but neighbors believed they frequently had visitors, thus deserving the title “colony.”
