‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ IMAX Featurette Shows Off Some Bonkers Footage
When you think Transformers, your mind probably doesn’t immediately go to places like medieval times (the era, not the restaurant) or Stonehenge, but that’s definitely where Michael Bay is taking us for The Last Knight. While we wait for the first official trailer to drop later this week, Paramount has released a new IMAX featurette that reveals a little bit of footage from the upcoming sequel — and it is bananas.
The featurette celebrates IMAX’s long and successful relationship with the Transformers franchise, beginning with the first film and continuing through the fifth, the upcoming The Last Knight. You’ll see plenty of action sequences from previous films, but in the back-half of the featurette, we get a wild sneak peek at the new sequel, which Bay shot with 3D IMAX cameras. (He also had his own custom RED camera made, appropriately dubbed “The Bayhem.”)
There are shots of King Arthur and his knights and Anthony Hopkins walking up to Stonehenge (???), which fits with previous reports that the sequel will span various eras. There’s also a totally Bay-tastic shot of money exploding out of a vault in a bank, and a couple of glimpses at big action scenes, including Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg hanging out of the side of a car (with longer, more enviable hair).
Transformers: The Last Knight also features returning stars Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro and Tyrese Gibson, along with John Goodman and Isabela Moner, and hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
