New Year's Day used to be exciting for me but since I've gotten a little older and I've started a family of my own, I'm becoming more cognisant of time and my own mortality. Each new year means I'm further removed from my youth and the stages of childhood my kids' experience. Instead of excitement, I feel bittersweet.

One of the reasons I'm excited about the new year is that I, despite knowing better, honestly think I can set some resolutions for myself to improve my life or my person. I'll learn one of these days. I'd like to invite you to partake with me today in some resolutions to make Tri-Cities a little better next year.

  • I'm going to use my turn signals consistently.

  • I'm going to merge and zipper properly on the Blue Bridge onramp.

  • I'm going to avoid Costco on Sundays.

  • I'm going to shop less, but when I do, I will buy locally.

  • I'm going to go out to eat more with my family and create lasting memories with my children.

  • I'm going to go to more high school football games and support local athletics.

  • I'm going to refrain from being judgemental when I see someone panhandling in the Winco parking lot.

  • I am going to get out more with my family and visit Tri-Cities area parks.

  • I am going to hike Badger Mountain.

  • I am going to stop tailgating people on 240.

  • I am going to refrain from racing down Canal.

  • I am going to stop asking myself why most local Tri-Cities stores are closed on Sundays.

Now, I'm not going to promise any of these resolutions will be kept and I won't try to keep all of them but I will put in an honest effort to be a better citizen. I hope you'll join me.
