We're getting to that time of year when it's warm enough to get out on the river. Boating, fishing, and swimming are all part of why it's great to live in the Northwest, but we need to be careful. Due to the high snowfall this year, many rivers are deeper and running faster than in in previous years. Hydrologists are warning that many northwest rivers, like the Yakima and Naches are running even higher than usual this year, so the danger is great.

A good rule of thumb is to take even more precautions than usual with engaging in water activities. Make sure everyone has life vests, even if they are an experienced swimmer. Keep together in pairs or groups, and have the proper water safety gear in boats and on all equipment. The water is going faster than it looks, so have fun, but make sure to be safe!!
