A huge gift-giving hit already this holiday season, travelers have been gobbling up new pieces of luggage called "smart bags".

These bags use lithium battery power banks and they'll have the ability to recharge your cell phone and other devices, as well as containing a GPS to track the bag's location in case it gets lost, electronic locks and a weight scale to prevent over-packing.

But because the bags use lithium batteries, American, Delta and Alaska airlines have already announced they will not be able to be placed in cargo holds of aircraft because of the possibility the batteries could cause a fire. And even if you're bringing it aboard as a carry-on, Delta and Alaska Air say you'll have to remove the batteries. The problem -- many of these bags have batteries which cannot be removed. United, Continental and Southwest Airlines also plan to announce a ban on the smart luggage soon.
