KING-TV (KING 5) is the big boy NBC station serving the Seattle area. It acquired its KING call sign in 1949, and their logo was drawn by Walt Disney.

According to Wikipedia, when KONG-TV was purchased by the company that owns KING, "the KONG call letters were retained as a tongue-in-cheek reference to King Kong, which made both stations easily marketable together."

This whole time, it meant what it sounded like.
