Will LeBron James Match Michael Jordan’s 6 Championships? — Sports Survey of the Day
The Miami Heat repeated as NBA champions Thursday night, with LeBron James also repeating as series MVP. Michael Jordan, the player LeBron James is most often compared to, won six titles in his career, so James still needs four more to even out that score. Can he do it?
Statistician Nate Silver at The New York Times took a look at how James compares not just with Jordan, but with numerous other players who have won both an NBA championship and MVP award by age 28 (James' age). It's an impressive list, as you might imagine: Anytime you're on a list with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, Shaquille O'Neal, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, you're in very good company.
Silver thinks it's unlikely James will get to six, which seems like a reasonable guess. It's hard enough to win even one title—just ask Patrick Ewing or Karl Malone, among many other Hall of Famers who never won a championship—let alone six. But it's possible. What do you think?
