One of the more unusual burglary calls taken this year by KPD, due to age of suspect.

Around 1:23PM Thursday, Officers were dispatched after a 911 call came in from the 2700 block of Sherman Street.  It's about a quarter mile northwest of Southridge High School, in south Kennewick.

The caller told police a man was using a large square piece of metal pipe, a couple of feet long, and was trying to break into her home through the back door.

The woman barricaded herself and armed herself with her gun and waited for police. Upon arrival Officers found the suspect, identified as 65 year old Monty Bockman, who had fled from the back door area. He was detained and arrested without incident.

Turns out this may not have been a traditional burglary, as Officers learned there is a protection order prohibiting Mr. Bockman from being on the premesis.

Officers located the large 2 x 2 long pipe at the scene.

Due to the nature of the situation, Police chose not to release the woman's name, but in their report commended her calm rational thinking and restraint. She secured the door, called 911, armed her self, but didn't panic.

She could have easily defended herself by using the gun before the suspect gained entry, but she did not.

Mr. Bockman is now facing Attempted Residential Burglary and Court Order Violation charges.

One other note: Officers said they normally observe speed limits, but given this situation, they hope the public understands why they were not going 20MPH through a nearby construction area close to the home.

Speaking of the 65 year old suspect...
