Not only are authorities keeping a close eye on brush fires and tinder dry lands in our area, but the forests of Eastern Washington just got their fire danger raised big time.

Friday, the Department of Natural Resources raised the fire danger in the following counties to Level 3, one step short of closing them to public use:

  • Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Okanogan, Stevens and Ferry Counties are all at level 3, Very high fire danger.

Of the four levels in fire danger, especially forest related, level 4 is the worst. It results in a complete shutdown of virtually all activity in that region, until conditions improve.

These conditions will remain in effect til further notice. It's advised that vacationers consider changing plans if they were planning to go camping in forests, especially since you can't use campfires or fire of any kind.
