Things I Wish Were on the Washington Ballot This Year
Having my birthday fall around Election Day has always kinda sucked. I'll look forward to my birthday and remember oh, it's time to vote again and have the air taken right out of my sails. Everybody gets so passionate this time of year about voting. Election ads seem to play around the clock in the weeks leading up to Election Day and each time I get this much closer to permanently plugging my own ears.
I can't remember the last time I was excited to vote. 2012 was a big election year in Washington. We, as citizens, voted to legalize the recreational use of marijuana, something I'd thought was impossible. There have been a few big issues on the docket since but nothing really exciting. I couldn't tell you what was on my ballot before I opened it up to vote. Here are some fun topics that could headline a ballot.
OBVIOUS SATIRE
Free marijuana. Now that marijuana has been legal for a decade, why not make it free? It's expensive!
Legalize jaywalking. Is somebody actually giving out tickets for this?
Defund the HOA. Every time I write a check to my HOA, I am reminded I could have more freedom if I actually tried.
Turn the whole Columbia River into a waterpark. To really hit this one out of the park, put a giant waterslide on the Blue Bridge.
State-enforced cap on concert ticket prices. I have pretty much written off going to concerts again until ticket prices get under control. George Strait nosebleed tickets cost almost as much as a new PS5. Blink-182 released their tour schedule and their ticket prices have made them a joke. Nobody wants to pay $400 a ticket to go to a concert and not even get to see the artist up close.
A new Toyota Center facility. This one is actually kind of serious. While significant improvements have been made to the Toyota Center to make hockey games more immersive, the structure itself needs some help. If it rains hard enough, you can hear it drip in the upstairs concourse.
