Farm Trespasser Gives Deputies Grief with Chase, Resistance

Deputies didn't say what the man was suspected of doing, but they did say he was trespassing.

Saturday afternoon, March 27th, a farmer called authorities to report a man was illegally on his farm property, about five miles west of Connell. It was near the intersection of Highway 17 and State Route 260.

Deputies responded and did make contact with the 32-year-old man, whose name was not released. However, during the interaction, the suspect apparently become combative and he assaulted a Deputy.

The man hopped in his truck, then sped away, with Offices in pursuit. After about two miles, the man apparently didn't anticipate this steep grade, and wrecked his truck. He then refused to exit the vehicle, and sat inside for nearly three hours.

During the standoff additional units from Connell PD, Fish and Wildlife, Pasco and Richland PD also assisted.

Then finally, the man gave up and peacefully surrendered. He was transported to Lourdes Medical Center and evaluated before being taken to the Franklin County jail.

Authorities say he's charged with Criminal Trespass, 3rd Degree Assault, Attempts to Elude Emergency Vehicles, and finally driving on a suspended license.

Officials did not reveal what he was doing on the property, or why he was there. It's presumed the incident remains under investigation.

A word to the wise: don't be tromping around on private property with the owner's permission, many of them will not take it lightly and will call authorities.
