I remember when Haley's Comet was visible some years ago. I looked at it like Chevy Chase looked at the Grand Canyon. Yeah, okay...I saw it...I'm done. But now that I know more about what a comet actually is and how fast it's really traveling, it's pretty cool to see it and imagine what an amazing spectacle it really is. Comet NEOWISE is actually a giant chunk of ice, almost as old as time itself, racing through our solar system. As it approached the sun, gasses were released and that's what we see as the comet's tail. Look toward the northwest after sunset and you might just spot it. There's also a good chance of seeing it about an hour before sunrise according to scientificamerican.com. Binoculars will help but may not be necessary. Apps like Google Sky might help you locate it quicker.
