After changing his plea to guilty a few days ago, a Mesa, WA man will now spend life in prison for his role in a fatal road-rage shooting incident from 2020.

Suspect sentenced for fatally shooting another driver on I-82 near Hermiston

Jaime Ubay-Farfan, 26, of Mesa (who was 24 at the time of the crime) was sentenced to Life in Prison for shooting 29-year-old  Tracey Scott Medows of Hood River, OR on June 20th, 2022.

Oregon Dispatch officials had received a 9-1-1 call from Medows who was driving on I-82 just past Hermiston towards the I-84 interchange. He said a vehicle, later determined to be Farfan's tried to run him off the road.

A short time later, Meadows was found in his vehicle on the side of the road, he was slumped over the wheel, suffering from gunshot wounds. Officials said prior to his passing at the scene, Medows was able to provide a description of Farfan as well as capturing part of the incident on his cellphone.

Medow's vehicle was found near the westbound Lamb Road interchange with I-82 south of Hermiston, a short distance from the interchange with I-84.

The next day, Farfan was arrested in Benton County, and extradited to Oregon. After delays in his trial, he finally changed his plea to guilty this week, and Wednesday was sentenced to life in prison.

He will be eligible to apply for parole after 25 years served. According to investigators, Farfan shot Medows after both vehicles had pulled over to the side of the road. Why they did was not revealed, but that's when the shooting occurred, and Farfan then left the area.
