Even though we're suffering through the hottest days of summer right now, there's a beacon of hope -- a light at the end of the tunnel, if you will. A sign knowing that something cool is upon us sooner than later.

Fall is coming.

I mean, of course it's coming eventually, but these past few days I've started to see more and more fall-related items on shelves.

I haven't had a chance to check out every store in Yakima in the last couple of days but here are a few things I've witnessed at some of the shops in the area.

This photo came straight from Fred Meyer.

We were looking for something else when my kid gleefully said, "Halloween stuff!" and though it wasn't quite Halloween-specific, I knew what they meant.

Candy corn and other 'candy corn-like' candies perfect for any harvest party. And they're already on sale!

Near the check stands they also had Halloween-themed Kit Kats and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups as they do new fun themed items every year.

At Walgreens the other day I saw their seasonal is now equipped for Back-to-School items. Papers, pencils, notebooks, and anything else you may need to fill out that kids' school supplies list.

I know that's not the fun side of fall, but with back-to-school comes the end of summer vacation which means the end of summer is coming to a quick end as well.

Also at Walgreens they already had scented pinecones and those scented mini-brooms which I never quite understood. But I love that raw, warm cinnamon smell they carry. That smells like fall to me. Many may even associate it with winter and I'm okay with that, too.

With stores getting these items early, sometimes they just put them out early. Hey, if it means getting some early sales, no harm, no foul. Look out for these and more around Yakima.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
