Mom Turns in 18-Year Old Son in Kennewick Homicide Case

A mother turned in her own son in connection to a recent homicide.

18-year-old Hector Munguia was brought to the Benton County Sheriff's Office Monday just after 10 am. His mother stated that they wanted to speak with detectives regarding a recent homicide.

70-year-old Zale Underwood was identified as the victim of a stabbing.

On Friday afternoon, Benton County Deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of South Gum Street in Kennewick for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers found the man's body inside a home. Deputies set up containment and had Gum Street closed between 10th and 13th Avenues while they conducted a K9 search. However, no suspects were found at the time.

Hector Munguia was arrested for Murder First Degree.

After interviews, it was learned that Munguia lived near Underwood. Although, it's unclear if there was any previous interaction between the two. It's believed that Munguia acted alone.

Munguia is expected to make a court appearance on Tuesday. The Prosecutor's Office will have 72 hours to determine if formal charges will be filed.

Benton County Sheriff Tom Croskrey said that this was an isolated event.
