Metallica Reveal Epic Behind-the-Scenes Footage From ‘Through the Never’ 3D Film
It seems like Metallica have been painstakingly working on their 3D concert film 'Metallica: Through the Never' for ages now. Though that may be true, the film will finally hit theaters in the next few weeks, but to give you a taste of 'Through the Never,' Metallica have unveiled two behind-the-scenes clips from the flick. First off, this movie was friggin' expensive to make. How expensive? Just a cool $20 million that Metallica financed themselves. 'Through the Never' will feature a full Metallica concert with a running narrative storyline integrated throughout the band's live footage.
The new behind-the-scenes footage featured on ComingSoon.net takes the band all the way back to 2010, when the 'Through the Never' team were discussing exactly what kind of film they wanted to make. After a long while of throwing around gigantic ideas, Metallica were so glued to the idea of 'Through the Never' that their inability to find people to invest in the film didn't hold them back. "There was a lot of times in this movie where we're like, 'No way, we can't do this. Let's just pull the plug,'" says frontman James Hetfield. "From the money it's gonna take to make this thing, how long it's gonna take to even break even; our kids could still have the bill for this thing."
In 'Through the Never,' Metallica's stage setup and the effects used during their performance are truly mind-blowing, with many adaptations of imagery re-imagined from past Metallica records. However, the back story of the film's creation and the hardships involved are just as enticing, making for a rich behind-the-scenes experience in these short clips.
