NASA: Now Hiring Astronauts
Ever look into the stars and think, "I wanna go up there!" Or watch "Star Trek" and say to yourself, "pshhhh, looks easy! I can do that!" Well, put your money where your mouth is! Apply today! A press release from NASA says the space agency is putting out the call to a new class of bold explorers. A 2015 call for potential astronauts brought in more than 18,300 applicants, but only 11 made the cut and went on to become full-blown space explorers!
NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said in an official announcement, "We will send the first woman and next man to the lunar South Pole by 2024, and we need more astronauts to follow suit on the Moon, and then Mars."
NASA's Astronaut Selection Board member Steve Koerner states: "Becoming an astronaut is no easy task, because being an astronaut is no easy task." That being said, there are several requirements in order to go into space on NASA's dime. You must be an American citizen possessing a master's degree in a STEM field or a medical doctorate. Test pilot training will also help. If you get past that, then you might get to endure "long-duration spaceflight physical". Get your applications in before March 31 and you could be banking $104,898 to $161,141 per year working for NASA.
