OREGON MAN JAILED FOR BEATING UP CAR THEFT SUSPECT

Might have had something to do with the handcuffs?

An interesting story out of Newport, OR.  New Year's Eve around 5:52 PM Newport Police responded to a location in town, where they were told by a man that his car had been recovered after being stolen from Coos Bay.

The theft victim, 41-year-old Daniel Fairhurst, told police he'd recovered his car, which was parked at that location, and he'd apprehended the thief.

THEFT SUSPECT FOUND HANDCUFFED AND BEATEN

According to Police, the suspect, 20-year-old Bo Hunter Green of Siletz, OR was bleeding from his head. According to the investigation,  Fairhurst used a firearm to confront Green, whom he caught in his car. He then handcuffed him and beat him for several minutes.

He then reportedly hid his gun in the car and walked the suspect to a business location where he called requesting Police and EMS. Police said Fairhurst told them he didn't know how the suspect got all bloody.

The suspect, Green, was cited for One Count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, but Fairhurst is facing the following charges:

Assault II- Class B Felony
Unlawful Use of a weapon- Class C Felony
Menacing- Class A Misdemeanor
Perhaps the extracurricular activity was a bit much, but the Newport Police Department Facebook page is lighting up with comments from angry citizens who are not happy with the 'slap' on the wrist the perp got vs. the victim.
