Oregon’s Sea Lion Caves Reopens to the Public [PHOTO]
Last year during the pandemic as restrictions got lifted, my wife Megan and I took a road trip along the Oregon Coast. One of the places we visited was a place called the Sea Lion Caves and it was pretty cool.
If you've never been, you are missing out on a fun road trip.
I hadn't been to the caves but my wife is a native Oregonian and had been there several times as a kid. We went last summer and had a great time but the caves had been closed since November of 2020 and now they are set to reopen.
The Sea Lion Caves are located about 11 miles north of Florence Oregon and right along Highway 101. It offers spectacular views and you'll see hundreds of sea lions enjoying the water and sun.
According to the Sea Lion Caves website, the Caves will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Spring Break, when operators plan to extend their hours. Masks and social distancing guidelines will be in effect. There will be further guidelines with groups being broken up and there might a slight wait as each group goes through the caves.
The cool thing is that the Sea Lion Caves is that it's a wildlife area and not a zoo. It means that the sea lions come and go as they please. If you don't see them in the caves, they are generally sun-bathing on the rocks and cliffs below the facility.
If you are thinking about a road trip, might want to put the Sea Lion Caves on your list to visit. You can check out their website here.
