Fortunately, the family is being moved to another open unit in the complex, and repairs being made to the building.

Police say the driver of this car who was parking it Wednesday evening hit the gas instead of the brake as he was pulling into a stop. The car leaped forward and slammed into the wall of the unit at the Woodland Park Apartments, located in a complex at 601 South Kent st.

After a visit from the building inspector it was determined the wall was too structurally weak, and the unit was unsafe. The Kennewick Police Community Care Fund was utilized to provide two nights of lodging at a hotel for the family, until their new unit could be ready Friday. No word if any charges against the driver, whose name was not released.
