Now, many folks will be wondering if the Columbia Cup-Water Follies will follow suit.

Granted, we have more open space than Seattle along Lake Washington etc, but SEAFAIR has already stated this week they are going to do much of their hydro event virtually.

They issued a statement that read in part (on their website):

"While encouraged by Gov. Inslee's Phase 3 guidelines that support small and medium-sized events with limitations, Seafair recognizes the guidelines will not support events the scale of a city-wide festival."

They went on to say that large open-air events that involve a lot of people require certain geographical and size requirements. They pointed out teams like the Mariners and Sounders have different obstacles to overcome, but also due to size of their venues are able to do some things Seafair cannot.

A look at their website shows at least 6-7 events that will in some way have virtual elements added to them, and some replaced by virtual entirely.

This brings to mind, what will the Water Follies do? On their Facebook page, they posted the following comment when they shared the SEAFAIR news:

"Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to our Seafair friends and fans. Please know that the Tri-City Water Follies Board of Directors are evaluating the very recently released Washington State Guidelines for Special Events and are working with our City partners to determine the feasibility of a HAPO Columbia Cup in July. Stay tuned!"

Last we heard a few days ago, the Water Follies are still planning as if the event will happen, including the Columbia Cup hydro races.
