Since the Kennewick Public Hospital District was formed in 1952 and KGH was created, babies born in Kennewick were delivered at the Auburn Street campus.

Three of our five children were delivered there, I still recall the incredible 7-Up and grape juice drink the nurses concocted for the delivering moms!  Nurses can come up with great stuff!

But I digress.  In 2013, KGH changed its name to TRIOS, and over the years has seen a vast change and growth of its facilities. If you've been in the Southridge area at all the last few months, you've noticed the large wing being built on the north side of the hospital building. It's a brand new birthing unit.

The facility will formally begin operations on March 29th, and according to TRIOS, will expand its ability to serve expecting families:

"The 37 existing beds on the Auburn campus are being relocated to the Southridge campus, jumping the bed count at Southridge to 111 with the completion of the new unit. However, Trios Health’s overall licensed bed count has not changed. Additionally, from the space that was renovated as part of the construction, 11 existing beds from the medical/surgical floors were converted to postpartum beds and are now being relocated to an expanded third floor. Construction is expected to continue on that expansion through July 2022."

The downtown Auburn birthing unit will close permanently March 28th, and as part of the growth of TRIOS, will be re-purposed for other medical uses.

The ribbon-cutting will take place at 4:30 PM Wednesday, March 28th, tours will be open for the public from 5-6:30 PM.
