Velvet Revolver Perform Set With Scott Weiland at Charity Gig

Four years after their acrimonious split, the members of Velvet Revolver reunited with lead singer Scott Weiland for a brief live set last night (Jan. 12) — and now a message on the band’s website is causing some to question whether Weiland could be back in the fold on a more permanent basis.

The reunion took place as part of a tribute show for John O’Brien, the songwriter (and friend to the band) who passed away last August. Part of a lineup that included Sheryl Crow, Stephen Stills, and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, VR tore through a four-song set that included three of the band’s earlier songs (‘Sucker Train Blues,’  ‘She Builds Quick Machines’ and ‘Slither’) and one cover (Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’).

In an interview with Rolling Stone, VR guitarist Dave Kushner was guardedly non-committal about the reunion, saying, “Because we hadn’t played with Scott in a long time I said, ‘Look, let’s just do three songs.’ It’s not too much of a commitment, so we just got a bunch of people, everyone will do three songs.”

Kushner continued, “We haven’t played together in four years, and so we’re really just like, ‘Let’s see how this goes.’ I know everyone’s got other commitments, but I think everyone’s like, ‘Let’s get this thing done and get through this and then we’ll see.’”

Of course, three songs ended up turning into four — and this morning, the band’s website was updated to include the message ‘New Velvet Revolver coming…’ Obviously, this is a far cry from an announcement of a full-fledged reunion, but it’s intriguing food for thought nonetheless.
