Smoke in the air is causing accidents and road closures throughout the state. Several fires are still burning and the Washington Department of Transportation is reporting several road closures.

There's been an EMERGENCY CLOSURE of US 2 from SR 172 (milepost 163, 13 miles east of Waterville) to SR 17 (milepost 187.5) due to the Cold Springs Canyon/Pearl Hill fire and low visibility.

Travel conditions are extremely hazardous and there is no estimate for when it will reopen. SR 17 and SR 172 are also closed.

The Washington DOT posted this message on their Facebook page:

Cross-state travelers should plan to use I-90 but know that heavy holiday-weekend travel will mean delays and likely very slow going so please be patient and cautious and be sure you and your vehicle are prepared with a full tank of gas, water, snacks, and other supplies. It's possible other highways could close as well as we are seeing more blowing dust and debris as well as collisions. We will update this post as we know more.

Looking at DOT cameras show that travel around the Vantage Bridge is slow-going with haze and smoke in both directions. You can check out road conditions and travel camera's here. If you are on the roadways this Labor Day, make extra time for slowdowns and closures.
