Boat Race Spectators Anchor Pulls Up Old Blue Bridge Ladder?
There's a lot of unanswered questions about this one.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol posted a picture Sunday afternoon, of a ladder that a group of Columbia Cup spectators 'caught' with their anchor.
No words as to exactly where they were anchored during the races. Presumably on the east side of the bridge, because nobody allowed just west due to the hydros.
They were probably not up at the west end because the current would not allow objects (even heavier ones) to gradually drift upstream.
But when they pulled up anchor to move, this section of 'yellow' ladder, probably about five feet long, came up with it. It's believed to be from the Blue Bridge.
It's not known if it was yellow to begin with, or if that's decomposition of the paint from back when the Blue Bridge was green.
Either way, it's generated a lot of social media comments, including jokes about needing to test the welds on the ladders on the bridge now.
But the Pioneer Memorial Bridge (the real name of the Blue Bridge) gets annual inspections top to bottom.
There's also a possibility it's from a barge or other vessel that lost it making it's way up and down, but most likely from the bridge.
As one person commented, "So that's what a REAL FISH LADDER looks like?!?"
Regardless of where it came from, it does appear to have been in the water for quite some time.
