Green Day Make Historic No. 1 Debut on Rock Songs Chart
Last week, Green Day released ‘Oh Love,’ the first single off their forthcoming ‘Uno!’ album, and the song has already made a major impact at radio. In fact, ‘Oh Love’ becomes just the third song in the history of the Billboard Rock Songs chart to debut at No. 1 on the tally, racking up 13 million first-week audience impressions from 145 reporting stations in the process.
The Rock Songs chart, which combines airplay from alternative, triple A, active rock and heritage rock stations, debuted in 2009. The only other bands to land songs at the top of it in their first week out are Linkin Park with ‘The Catalyst’ and Foo Fighters with ‘Rope.’ ‘Uno!’ drops Sept. 25 and is part of a barrage of three new albums from Green Day over the next six months; the others are appropriately titled ‘Dos!’ and ‘Tres!’
Meanwhile, No Doubt make a pretty solid impression of their own with ‘Settle Down,’ which premieres at No. 22 on the Rock Songs chart. ‘Settle Down’ is the lead single from their forthcoming comeback album ‘Push and Shove,’ their first disc since 2001′s ‘Rock Steady.’
Over on the Alternative Songs chart, ‘Oh Love’ (No. 7) and ‘Settle Down’ (No. 22) both make strong debuts as well. For Green Day, it’s the 28th song they’ve placed on the chart, while No Doubt have managed to land nine. The Alternative chart has been around since 1988.
