Lollapalooza took place from July 28-31 in Grand Park in Chicago and featured other artists like Green Day, Billy Strings, Machine Gun Kelly, J. Cole and many, many others.

Metallica's set—which closed out the fest's first evening on Thursday, July 28—was similar to their recent run of dates in Europe, including a familiar setlist as well as their epic Snake Pit experience for the crowd. Most exciting, though, was the unforgettable nod the band gave to Stranger Things during their always-intense performance of "Master of Puppets."

The last time the band played Chicago was a much different experience for Metallica fans.

On Sept. 20, 2021, they played for a sweaty, excited audience at The Metro, a club that holds about 1,100 people. Coincidentally, their first gig in Chicago was also at the Metro, on Aug. 12, 1983, as part of their Kill 'Em All For One tour; fans can actually watch that old-school show right here.

Metallica only have two dates left for 2022, first at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y., on Aug. 11, and then at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Aug. 14. You can get details on those shows—as well as enter to win Snake Pit passes—at Metallica's official website.
