More From The No Fun League
Football in America is King.
But for whatever reason, even little slides in ratings, attendance and merchandise sales sets off yuuuuuge alarm bells in the hallowed halls of the National Football League.
It must be the players and the excessive celebration. Yeah that's it, that's the ticket.
So the NFL has sent out a video showing players examples of what the league determines to be appropriate and inappropriate end zone celebrating. You have got to be kidding me. Instant mockery on behalf of the players' tweets I've read since the videos have been dispatched and seen.
In better news, the NFL has asked the TV networks to reduce the number of commercial breaks during broadcasts as well as tweaking play reviews and in-game timing.
According to Deadline, the Commish, Roger Goodell, claims research shows football viewers notice fewer breaks but not their length. So, following last season which had lower ratings, the goal is not to shorten games but to speed them up, provided the changes are approved by the team owners.
Other modifications include a plan to change replay reviews by bringing a tablet to the referee, who can review the play in consultation with the officiating HQ in New York, which has the final decision.
There will also be a play clock following the extra point when the TV network does not take a break, and Goodell says they're also considering instituting a play clock after a touchdown.
Stay tuned, more after this excruciatingly long break....
