Will Pasco Voters Splash Into Proposed Water Park? Vote Coming in April
April 26th Franklin County will have a special election ballot, which will contain a proposal for a water park. Pasco voters will decide this one.
The Tri-Cities Public Facilities District had previously tried in 2013 to push through a proposal for a water park that would have cost $35 million. The TCPF voted to put it before Pasco voters.
PASCO-FRANKLIN COUNTY VOTERS APPROVED THE ORIGINAL BUT LITTLE SUPPORT FROM BENTON COUNTY BROUGHT DOWN PROJECT
The original plan was defeated, the further away from Pasco you looked the less voter support. The land originally slated for the regional water park is now McCurley Subaru and an RV Dealership.
The new proposal is for $40 million, a 25-year bond with it being paid for by a $.02 cents per $10 dollar raise in sales tax. The plan has been worked on a lot since the original was defeated.
LOCATION STILL TO BE DETERMINED
The plan calls for it to be located on 4.6 acres, but a venue is still being located. As we had mentioned earlier the original land for the old project has been subdivided and sold and most are occupied.

The park would be built in two phases, one would be ready by 2024 the other would take another 13-15 years out from now. Phase One would include outdoor pool, concessions, indoor leisure pool, a party-event room, and locker rooms.
The second phase would include an eight-lane indoor competition quality pool.
The pool, the first phase, according to the Tri-City Herald and planners, would employ a mix of 16 full and part-time workers.
The sales tax would pay for the project, the revenue from the facility would be used to help offset operating expenses. It will be voted on April 26th by Pasco voters.
