There are only a couple of reasons why a pro basketball player should attempt to make a half-court shot, and they all usually involve a ticking clock that’s about to end the game. We’ve seen many failed attempts and famous wins in basketball history as only two or three seconds remained in the game and one hopeful player hurled the ball from half court praying that he would sink the winning shot. There are those guys, and then there's Russell Westbrook.

Earlier this week, in a game against San Antonio, the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard decided it was time to attempt a half-court shot … even though there were 18 seconds remaining on the clock, long enough for anyone to dribble down to the paint or pass to another player to make the shot.

Check out Westbrook’s odd, failed airball above. Someone needs to teach this guy how to tell time.
