New health information revealed heart disease is no longer the No. 1 killer of Washingtonians. It's now cancer. That's understandable, right? The reason is depressing.

You can't "catch" cancer, it just happens, right? There's nothing we can do about it... or is there?

Advances in medical technology mean more people are surviving heart attacks. So sadly fewer people aren't getting heart disease, just fewer people are dying from it.

But the same lifestyle choices that result in heart disease later in life also cause cancer. And because adults don't take cancer screenings seriously enough, the stats for killing the disease early are not as good as you'd think.

This sad story could be improved, however! Encourage older adults to see their doctors often and receive regularly screenings! And YOU, you can make better choices so your body doesn't get run down in old age!
