I found an interesting study on CareerBuilder about how social media posting affect a managers decision to hire a prospective employee. According to CareerBuilder 43% of manager decided not to hire a job candidate because of something the found on a social media profile, and 39% of companies use social networking sites to research social networking sites to research job candidates. Candidate posted provocative/inappropriate photos/info – 50%
There was info about candidate drinking or using drugs – 48%
Candidate bad mouthed previous employer – 33%
Candidate had poor communication skills – 30%
Candidate made discriminatory comments related to race, gender, religion, etc. – 28%
