Against Me! Singer Tom Gabel to Become a Woman

Gritty punk rock band Against Me! is about to have a new frontwoman. The band's singer, Tom Gabel, came out as being transgender; telling  Rolling Stone that he has lived with "gender dysphoria for years".

Gabel will undergo the transition process and take the name Laura Jane Grace. She plans to still front Against Me!, known for songs such as "Trash Unreal" and "I Was a Teenage Anarchist".

On a personal note, I recall one of my favorite songs on Against Me!'s New Wave record, "The Ocean". In a verse, Gabel sings "If I could have chosen, I would have been born a woman. My mother once told me she would have named me Laura." Little did it occur to me how literal the words were.

As for the future of Against Me!, Gabel said "However fierce our band was in the past, imagine me, six-foot-two, in heels, f---ing screaming into someone's face."
