"Burning Man" is a huge festival in the Black Rock Desert 150 miles north of Reno. It's happening right now and always occurs the week ending with Labor Day. It attracts 50,000 people and has been an annual event since 1990. It is a celebration of experimental communities and surrealist art.

I saw a documentary about "Burning Man" on Netflix called "Spark" (see the trailer below). I watched it out of curiosity and thought, "What is this?"

After seeing the movie I wanted to go really bad! But the documentary left out a lot of the icky stuff like how there's dirt and sand blowing everywhere (see the other video below). A lot of electronic equipment brought gets destroyed!

Also, it's a week-long festival in the desert with "hippies" so hygiene is obviously a problem. I've since learned it's a hot bed of drugs, nudity and free love.

What fascinates me is it's become quite a party. They've capped participation to 50,000 which means it's become somewhat elite to participate. That means millionaires are now attracted to the event. Some have teams go in ahead of them and build extravagant dwellings for them. One even hired a team of professional models to "decorate" his compound. The original attendees (called "Burners") are wary of how "pop" it has become. Instead of becoming a celebration of surrealism and communitarianism, it's now a trendy Labor Day vacation.
