It seems though everyone is eating leftover turkey for a week or two after the holiday, and trying to find ways to make it different--bread, butter, turkey sandwich, plus potatoes, yams etc.

But a surprising amount of the birds end up being thrown away.  Based upon a variety of surveys and studies, including PBS,  anywhere between 200 and 204 MILLION pounds of birds end up in the garbage. Some down the disposal, others simply in the dumpster.

One way, suggest some experts, to avoid wasting as much food, is asking guests what they want on the menu in advance (if possible!), so you can buy accordingly. And, they say serving it in buffet style helps cut down on waste.

Or, make a LOT of sandwiches and give them to co workers...
