A 32-year-old man is in the Benton County jail after taking a truck on a wild theft joy ride on Thanksgiving Day.

Shortly after 4am, the victim called 911 and reported hearing his truck start up at his residence at 2606 West 6th. Street.

The truck was located near 10th and Vancouver, and Kennewick officers gave chase. A spike strip was deployed by a Richland officer who was assisting after the driver refused to pull over. Two of the vehicle's tires were flattened, but the driver refused to stop.

He entered Richland's jurisdiction, then came back through Columbia Park before turning back onto Highway 240. At that point the driver, identified as Todd M. Irving of Portland, OR, lost control and rolled it into a ditch. He was unharmed, but quickly taken into custody.

He's facing an outstanding arrest warrant, vehicle theft, and felony eluding police.
